• What is Orthodontics?

  Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry dealing with the repositioning and realignment of the teeth. Orthodontic treatment is used to improve the aesthetics and function of your teeth and smile. It can help improve oral health as teeth are easier to keep clean and also enhance confidence and mental wellbeing.

• What age is appropriate for orthodontic treatment in children?

  Usually, orthodontic treatment is most effective while a patient is still growing. Your dentist will have been keeping an eye on your child’s teeth from an early age, and will be able to refer them for treatment at the most appropriate time.

• How do I know if my child needs orthodontic treatment?

  Sometimes, it can be obvious that your child will benefit from orthodontic treatment. You may be able to see crowded teeth or gaps between teeth. Your dentist will monitor your child’s teeth at their regular check ups and will be able to refer them for orthodontic treatment if appropriate. You can also contact us directly on a private basis if you are concerned and wish to obtain a private, specialist, orthodontic opinion (please note that charges will apply for this).

• What happens during the first appointment?

  First appointments can sometimes be stressful. At Links Orthodontics, our experienced and highly trained team will ensure that patients feel comfortable and at ease from the moment they step through the door. In a relaxed, professional atmosphere, we will listen carefully to your needs, concerns and objectives and make a full orthodontic assessment, which you will then discuss with your Orthodontist.

  Once a treatment plan is agreed, your child will move onto the next stage of active treatment.
